Gavin Coyle

Gavin Coyle is the founder of Coyle Group and the chartered safety practitioner at the centre of the company's 25-year operating record. He is a Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) and holds a Master of Business Studies (MBS, NFQ Level 9) from Dublin City University. His career was set on its current course by a single event: as a young safety officer at the age of 18, he witnessed a young male worker fall from height on a construction site. The worker was pronounced dead from his injuries two days later. Gavin has described the moment in his own words: "It was a situation that changed my focus and career path forever."

That event is the founding condition of the business. Coyle Group was established in 1999 to address the same root failure he saw that day: project teams accepting safety personnel who lacked the chartered standard, the vertical knowledge, or the on-site presence to stop work when needed. The company's tagline, "Putting People First," dates to the 2013 Brand Book and reads as a direct line back to the fatal fall. It is operational, not aspirational.

Today Gavin leads a chartered talent pool of more than 100 safety people working across wind, utilities, construction, data centres and water programmes for tier-one operators in Ireland, the United Kingdom and continental Europe. He continues to take client calls personally, even when they come outside hours. 17 of the company's 23 Trustpilot reviews name him by his first name. Michael Clancy of ESB stated on the record: "Gavin is always a phone call away and has always provided a professional and supportive service, on many occasions at very short notice and outside of business hours."

Gavin is the author of Workplace Safety on a Budget, a practitioner's guide to running a credible safety programme without the consulting overhead that smaller operators cannot carry. He hosts the I'm The Gaffer podcast, now past 112 episodes, with safety leaders from across the energy, construction and utilities sectors. He authored the Coyle Approach safety culture maturity model, a five-stage framework that integrates UK HSE and US S-CAT guidance and underpins the company's Free Safety Culture Survey. He has been interviewed by The Irish Times and ISHN, and has joined 19 industry podcasts as a guest.
